# AI agents for TradingView

Four prompts. You get an alert message and a journal line. An alert is not an order.

No business relationship with TradingView. Checked 2026-10-17.

## Does TradingView have an MCP server for Claude or ChatGPT?

Yes. TradingView runs an MCP server at https://mcp.tradingview.com/mcp, in public beta on Essential and higher plans. You sign in with your TradingView account in the browser, and there are no API keys.

- One server URL works for every client: https://mcp.tradingview.com/mcp. Authentication is OAuth 2.1. There are no API keys to copy or store.
- MCP access is included in Essential and all higher plans. Trial plans do not include MCP access.
- It works with Claude, ChatGPT, Codex, Cursor, Perplexity, and Grok, and with any client that supports MCP over streamable HTTP with OAuth 2.1.
- Read-only tools never change your account. Write tools create, change, or delete watchlists and alerts.
- Only simple price alerts are supported: cross, cross up, cross down, greater, and less.
- Market data through the MCP server is delayed, including on accounts with a real-time data subscription. Real-time data stays on tradingview.com during the beta.
- The beta is for personal, interactive use. Feeding MCP data into automated trading or decision systems is not permitted.

### Can the TradingView MCP create webhook alerts?

No. Indicator-based (study) alerts, multi-condition alerts, watchlist alerts, and webhook alerts cannot be created or edited through MCP. Set those up on tradingview.com. Webhook alerts are only allowed when 2-factor authentication is enabled. Only ports 80 and 443 are accepted. If a remote server takes longer than three seconds to process a request, the request will be cancelled.

### Can a TradingView alert place a trade by itself?

No. An alert from the MCP server or from a webhook is a note, not an order. The receiving broker's pack and the order check at /check still apply. LIVE_TRADING stays off until you set it.

## What to use and when

| Session | Hours | What to use | Source |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| US stocks, regular | 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. ET | An alert is a note. A simple price-cross alert is calculated on 1-minute bars. | [TradingView placeholders](https://www.tradingview.com/support/solutions/43000531021-how-to-use-a-variable-value-in-alert/) |
| Chart session | Whatever session the chart includes | An alert can fire on an extended-hours bar. It is still not an order. TradingView says alerts are not designed for automated trading. | [TradingView webhook note](https://www.tradingview.com/support/solutions/43000722015-using-credentials-for-webhooks/) |
| Forwarded to a broker | That broker's clock | If a webhook points at a broker, that broker's session hours decide which order types can work. | [TradeStation guide](/guides/ai-agents-for-tradestation) |

## Paste this to start

### Connect: No login for the agent

```
You are setting up TradingView for my desk. You cannot sign in. You draft text. I click everything.
TradingView has an MCP server at https://mcp.tradingview.com/mcp. If I connect it, I sign in myself in the browser. You do not ask for a password or an API key. Only a simple price alert can be created there. Study alerts, multi-condition alerts, watchlist alerts, and webhook alerts are set on tradingview.com.
Reply with three bullets only:
- You will not ask for my TradingView password.
- You will not place, modify, or cancel an order.
- Research and alert drafts do not place orders.
- LIVE_TRADING is off unless I set it. Paper first. Go live when I choose, behind preflight, a risk gate, hard limits and kill rules.
- Automated trading can lose money; start on paper and set hard limits.
Then stop.
```

### Paper or test: The alert is a note

```
The alert I am about to create is a note to me. It is not an order.
Draft the message I will paste into TradingView.
Use the symbol and price placeholders from TradingView's alert docs, plus the condition in my own words, and the bar time.
Label it "note, not an order".
If I later point this alert at a broker, tell me to turn on that broker's test or paper mode first.
Do not invent a webhook URL.
```

### First alert: The watchlist

```
My watchlist, in my words:
[paste symbols, timeframe, and the level I care about]
For each symbol write:
- 1 to 3 conditions I can type into a TradingView alert (a price, a percent move, or a date)
- one condition that takes it off the list
These are reminders to look. They are not instructions to trade.
```

### Journal: When it fires

```
Turn this into a journal line. Do not fill a field I did not give you.
What arrived:
[paste the email, the pop-up, or the webhook body]
Fields: time, symbol, condition, did I act (yes / no / blank).
A fired alert is not a fill.
```

## Gotchas agents must know

- **An alert is not an order.** You create the alert. The agent writes the message. TradingView says alerts are not built for automated trading.
- **Which bar.** A price-cross alert is calculated on 1-minute bars. An alert on an indicator uses the chart's timeframe. The placeholder list is in their docs.
- **No password in the alert.** Do not put a password in the webhook URL or the message. Their webhook note says the same thing.
- **The broker still has hours.** An alert can fire outside 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. ET if the chart session includes those bars. The receiving broker may not accept a market or stop then. Read that broker's guide.
- **Someone else's URL.** A webhook on a URL you do not run is a different product. On TradersPost, leave test=true until a log row shows the JSON parsed.

## Their docs

The calls, fields, and error strings live in those docs. This pack does not repeat them.
